About the BBMAs
Canative Housing Corporation was established in 1971 to address the need for safe, accessible housing for Aboriginal Albertans living in urban centres. In 2001, the directors of Canative Housing, Dr. Herb Belcourt, Orval Belcourt, and Georges Brosseau, K.C., established the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards Fund at Edmonton Community Foundation. They realized that making an investment in education would help ensure the long term success of their people.
The fund provides awards so that Métis Albertans demonstrating financial need, commitment, and a desire to be gainfully employed can realize self-sufficiency through the advancement of their post-secondary education and skills development.
The Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards are the largest non-governmental source of student funding for Métis students in Canada.
Support the BBMAs
Right now, the BBMAs are only able to support half of the Métis Albertans that apply. That means we are unable to support around 200 of the 400 applicants each year. With your support, we can bridge that gap.
You can support directly by donating to the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards Fund.
