GBV Resource Collective Support Fund for GBV Victims

Every year, thousands of humans in Alberta are affected by domestic and gender-based abuse.  As reporting rates increase and as our understanding of the impacts of trauma continues to be refined, we are left with gaps in services that can inhibit domestic and gender-based survivors from reaching their full potential.

Domestic and gender-based abuse is not a crime that discriminates, it affects those of all genders, ethnicities, and socioeconomic status. However, it is not uncommon to see financial concerns emerge for families after a disclosure of abuse. Perhaps the family has to pay legal fees, or they require specialized therapy services, or caregivers have had to take time off work. Perhaps the survivor has been home raising their children for years and has no ability to support themselves.

For these reasons, the GBV Resource Collective Support Fund was developed and will be working with select charities to ensure funds directly impact the needs of survivors.

Domestic and gender-based abuse should never define anyone. The GBV Resource Collective Support Fund is an attempt to return power and control to survivors, to allow them to author their own story and come up with their own endings. It allows them to leap from surviving to THRIVING.

With continued help and support from the community, there is no telling what survivors can, and will achieve.
